Adventure Sail

Seize the day and adventure with KYC! This program is great for all ages interested in enjoying the water on various vessels including paddle boards, keelboats, and enjoying swimming. With a Sail Canada Certified coach, this program is open for sailors who are eager to get on the water and enjoy what Lake Ontario has to offer.

    420 Double Handed Programs

    CANSail 1 Double-Handed

    C420 CANSail 1 program is an entry-level sailing course designed for sailors aged 10 to 17. Following the Sail Canada CANSail 1 curriculum, this program introduces participants to the fundamentals of sailing, including boat handling, sail trim, communication and teamwork as there will be two sailors per boat. This program provides a collaborative learning environment for sailors to focus on key tasks and to work together to navigate the 420 efficiently and effectively.

    CANSail 2 Double-Handed

    C420 CANSail 2 builds upon the sailing skills learned in the CANSail 1 course. This program focuses on developing a deeper understanding of boat handling, moderate wind conditions, and overall team building. Through a blend of on-land activities and hands-on water instruction, the KYC coaches provide a dynamic learning environment tailored to the needs of each participant. Aligned with the Sail Canada CANSail 2 requirements, the program ultimately focuses on skill development, safety, and enjoyment on the water.

    Requirements:

    • Ages: 10 - 17 years old
    • Successful completion of CANSail 1
    • PFD / life jacket is required to be worn while in, on, and around the water.
    Notes:
    • To successfully complete CANSail 2, sailors are expected to demonstrate a controlled sailboat in 8 knots of wind.
    • Some sailors may need more than 2 weeks of coaching and instruction before they can progress to CANSail 3.

    CANSail 3 Double-Handed

    C420 CANSail 3 is designed for sailors to focus on advanced skills such as tactical sailing and experiencing more challenging conditions. New skills will be introduced like trapeze, spinnaker, and basic racing strategies. This program prepares sailors for competitive sailing as seen through participating in the KYC Bronze Regatta, where sailors will have the opportunity to practice their racing knowledge in a competitive yet supportive environment. The program adheres to the Sail Canada CANSail 3 curriculum.

    CANSail 4 Double-Handed

    C420 CANSail 4 specifically highlights advanced sailors who are ready to refine their sailing theory, tactics, and racing. Participants will focus on mastering double-handed techniques in various wind conditions, while exploring complex concepts like Center of Effort, Centre of Lateral Resistance, and Vector Analysis. CANSail 4 participants are expected to participate in the KYC Bronze Regatta to gain valuable racing experience to prepare them for CANSail 5. The program follows the Sail Canada CANSail 4 standard.

    Before and After Camp Care

    KYC Junior Sailing is excited to offer both Before Camp and After Camp Care for sailors this season. Before Camp Care will run from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, and After Camp Care will run from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday. If you wish to add Before and/or After Camp Care to your sailors' registration for this season, please select the appropriate add-on option when adding programs to your cart.

    Membership Credit Book:
    Full Family members will receive a credit book equal to 15% of paid program fees, which can be used for Food & Beverage, Regalia, and Gas Dock purchases. This replaces the previous membership discount.
