420 Double Handed Programs
CANSail 1 Double-handed
Double Handed CANSail 1 is an introductory program for sailors between the ages of 10 to 17 years old. KYC follows Sail Canada's CANSail 1 standard. Sailors in this program learn the basics of boat maneuvering, sail trim, and seamanship through a variety of interactive land and water lessons, and on-water instruction. Sailors will become familiar with sailboats and gain confidence in a sailboat while sailing with a partner. Sailors are encouraged to participate in camp-wide games and activities, such as our legendary Cedar Island Day.

Time: Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm

CANSail 2 Double-handed
In our Double-handed CANSail 2 program, sailors will expand on their fundamental sailing knowledge. Sailors will work towards becoming a confident skipper and a confident crew while sailing in 8 knots of wind. KYC instructors use a variety of teaching methods for fun and interactive land and water lessons.
KYC follows the Sail Canada CANSail 2 standard. Sailors are encouraged to participate in camp-wide games and activities, such as our legendary Cedar Island Day.
Progam Length: 2 weeks
Time: Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm

Requirements:
- Ages: 10 - 17 years old
- Successful completion of CANSail 1
- PFD / life jacket is required to be worn while in, on, and around the water. No exceptions.
- To successfully complete CANSail 2, sailors are expected to demonstrate a controlled sailboat in 8 knots of wind.
- Some sailors may need more than 2 weeks of coaching and instruction before they can progress to CANSail 3.

CANSail 3 Double-handed
The Double-handed CANSail 3 program builds on the sailor’s existing skills in more challenging weather conditions to reach a tactical level of proficiency. Sailors will be CSOduced to trapeze and spinnaker, basic racing knowledge. CANSail 3 sailors are expected to participate in the KYC-run “Bronze Regatta”.
KYC follows Sail Canada's CANSail 3 curriculum. Sailors are encouraged to participate in camp-wide games and activities, such as our legendary Cedar Island Day.

- Ages: 10 - 17 years old
- Successful completion of CANSail 2

- A minimum of 4 consecutive weeks is required for CANSail 3.
- Some sailors may need more than 4 weeks of coaching and instruction before they can progress to CANSail 4.

CANSail 4
In our Double-handed CANSail 4 program, sailors will refine their double-handed sailing skills in varying wind conditions. Sailors will also learn more CSFanced sail theory (CE and CLR, vectors, etc.) and will be expected to apply these concepts during on-water lessons. Sailors will also continue to learn about racing concepts and tactics.
CANSail 4 sailors may have opportunities to practice with the CANSail 5 C420 Learn-to-Race Team. CANSail 4 sailors are also expected to participate in the KYC-run “Bronze Regatta”. Membership Credit Book:
Full Family members will receive a credit book equal to 15% of paid program fees, which can be used for Food & Beverage, Regalia, and Gas Dock purchases. This replaces the previous membership discount.
