Development & Race Teams

The KYC Race Programs include Learn to Race, and Race Team. Regatta schedules for each team will vary from year to year. Starting in 2017 and continuing this year, KYC will be hosting variety of guest coaches to provide on-water instruction alongside team coaches. Some of our past coaches include national coaches, world champions, and Olympians such as Robert Davis, Dannie Boyd, Chris Cook, John Curtis, Chris Cowan and Bernard Luttmer.

Before and After Camp Care

KYC Junior Sailing is excited to offer both Before Camp and After Camp Care for sailors this season. Before Camp Care will run from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, and After Camp Care will run from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday. If you wish to add Before and/or After Camp Care to your sailors' registration for this season, please select the appropriate add-on option when adding programs to your cart.

Opti Race Development CANSail 3 + 4

As we take the year to review our Opti Race Team, we are happy to introduce Opti Race Development. This program introduces racing rules, practice tactics, and sailors will be working towards their CANSail 3 or 4 level. This program will participate in KYC's Bronze Regatta to put what they have learned to the test and get first-hand racing experience. This program is also great for sailors who already have racing experience and are keen to refine their skills on and off the water.

Program Length: 4 weeks
Time: Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:00pm

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of CANSail 2
  • Ages: 10 - 14 years old
  • PFD / life jacket is required to be worn while in, on, and around the water.

420 Race Team

The C420 Race Team is designed for advanced sailors to master the highest levels of racing and sailing techniques. Delving into sophisticated sailing, rigging theory, and being able to apply these concepts on a daily basis striving to enhance their performance. Sailors will be expected to implement taught racing strategies and tactics during regattas and consistently at practice. To ensure continued progress, sailors are aiming to achieve their CANSail 5 or 6 to solidify their knowledge and to maximize retention throughout the year. The C420 Race team will be required to run one KYC Bronze Regatta as it contributes to achieving their levels. Ultimately, this program aims for comprehensive training for athletes to achieve their full potential in the sport of sailing.

Sailors in this program will be expected to participate in local regattas, away from home regattas, and local sailing clinics. Sailors who wish to achieve their CANSail 6 are encouraged to participate in spring training and continue training in the fall to maximize their skill retention.

Spring Training Registration

Open to any sailors already registered for the Full Season Race Team or the Half Summer Race team to get additional training opprotunities prior to the regular season commencing. Price is $150 per session which gets each sailor a 3 hour training session with our 420 Race Team coaches, to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance via email: raceteam@kingstonyachtclub.ca

When registering, please select the week during which you intend to schedule your training session. Each race team sailor may schedule a maximum of three spring training sessions per week. If you would like to schedule two sessions in one week, please select the "Spring Training Plus One Session add-on", if you would like to schedule three sessions in the same week, please select the "Spring Training Plus Two Sessions add-on".

Membership Credit Book:
Full Family members will receive a credit book equal to 15% of paid program fees, which can be used for Food & Beverage, Regalia, and Gas Dock purchases. This replaces the previous membership discount.
