Should never come up.

A camp. A sailing school. A swimming hole. A summer of memories.

KYC has a long tradition of great coaches, amazing waters and an amazing location to spend a few weeks in the summer.  From beginners at any age to advanced racers who have sailed the world’s most famous waterways, KYC offers a day camp, clinics and off-season.

Parents – sailors or not – be assured that the coaches are not your typical camp instructors.  Coaches have spent years training and have achieved their national certification through Sail Canada.  Certification includes everything from first aid, water safety, teaching, lesson planning, leadership and most importantly sailing.  Using Sail Canada’s CANsail programming – our instructors maximize as much time on the water as possible - depending on Mother Nature of course.  More importantly, our instructors and coaches teach their lessons by doing and showing rather than talking and testing.

We are excited to announce our amazing Olympic and Pre-Olympic guest coaches this year: Dannie Boyd, Chris Cooke, John Curtis, Robert Davis,Bernard Luttmer, and Chris Cowan.

Look for them throughout the summer – on the water, on land and around the club!

Our Team

James Rountree - KYC Sailing Manager for LTS (JS/ALTS) & KYC race program(s)

We at KYC are very excited to welcome James Roundtree to our LTS & KYC Race Programs. James comes to us via New Zealand and will be joining our team on May 1st

A Bit about James:

James has completed a double degree of Bachelor of Sport and Recreation and a Bachelor of Business at AUT University, which has enabling him to expand his knowledge, interest and passion for coaching. In addition to Sailing, James has gained valuable coaching experience through swimming as well as skiing.

Currently, James just completed a position as the Junior Sailing Director of Severn Sailing Association (SSA) in Annapolis (he left this position at the end of January due to visa expiration). James will be an enormous asset to KYC bringing in years of World experiences. As he settles in with our Club, his main objectives for the season will be to assist our Head Instructor (Grace) with the day to day operations of the JS Department while overseeing the high performance and race teams, ensuring our Junior Program is successful. James will also have a pivotal role with our ALTS program(s) as well as being our RMC for Member Race Nights and weekend racing. James will also offer his assistance with the organization of Wednesday Night Dingy sailing. If this is not enough, I am sure Ken, Ze and Matt (with their respective committees) will find additional ways to keep him busy.

We are proud and excited to have James join our team. When you are down during launch or thereafter, please find a moment to stop in and say “Hi” and welcome him to KYC.

Grace Whiteside - Junior Sailing Head Instructor

KYC is pleased to announce Grace Whiteside as Junior Sailing Head Instructor for 2017 season. Grace grew up at KYC in the junior sailing program and joined the instructor team five years ago. Grace is currently finishing her studies at McGill in Mathematics and International Development. The JS team are very pleased and excited to have Grace as the lead for our 2017 JS season as her 15 years at the club as student and staff have given her a great amount of expertise that will no doubt make our 2017 season highly successful.
